2025 Key Events and Achievements
Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation 2025, Distinction Award
On 4 April 2025, the Riverside Secondary School Concert Band (RSSCB) took to the stage of the Singapore Conference Hall for the prestigious Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Arts Presentation. With months of dedication and teamwork, the band delivered a moving performance that earned them the Distinction Award — their first in 10 years!
This achievement was built on the spirit of collaboration and growth. Our friends from Pasir Ris Secondary School Concert Band and Admiralty Secondary School Concert Band warmly hosted us for band exchanges, where we shared musical insights and honed our craft. The lessons learnt during these exchanges inspired us to refine our ensemble’s musicality and perform with greater unity and expression.
Asia and Pacific Band Directors’ Association Conference 2025
Riverside Secondary School had the honour of being part of the Asia and Pacific Band Directors’ Association (APBDA) Conference 2025, a prestigious international event that brought together passionate music educators and conductors from across the region. The conference provided valuable opportunities for learning, collaboration, and cultural exchange, allowing participants to gain fresh insights into music education and performance. It was an inspiring experience that reaffirmed our school’s commitment to nurturing musical excellence and global connections through the performing arts. During the conference, we had an outdoor performance at Gardens by the Bay, watched the gala concert and had a band exchange with Taipei Jinhua Municipal Junior High School.
Youth Arts Leader Conference (YALC) 2025 at NUS
This is a conference where student band leaders develop their leadership skills in areas of personal leadership, leading others, and musical leadership. Over two days, influential leaders from the arts industry shared insights on practical leadership concepts with the students. Fifteen of our student band leaders also learnt the finer aspects of leading the band in playing together as one.
I have really enjoyed my time in the Riverside Concert Band. Over the past two years, all the experiences have been nothing short of amazing. This year was equally exciting — from clinching a Distinction at SYF to hosting a Taiwanese band in our school, I feel that the RSS Band has come a long way since I joined. As the Band Chairperson, I am committed to ensuring that the band maintains its legacy and reaches greater heights. Once again, I am deeply thankful for all the experiences and memories that the RSS Band has given me, and I hope that future members will share the same sentiment.— Yong Yin Hao
